La Taqueria - San Francisco
Mexican dinner in the Mission

If you’re in the Mission for dinner then there’s no place better than La Taqueria. It was my first meal in San Francisco and one of the most memorable. Located a short walk from the 24th St Mission BART stop, it’s located conveniently within the district. It’s easy to spot too.
A huge neon sign draws you in with a handful of outside seats. Depending on the time of day you choose to go, you may be greeted by a rush of chattering locals, live music and friendly faces on communal tables. In the evenings, this welcome is almost certain. Getting a seat requires patience and speed; whilst my boyfriend queued up to order, I kept a careful watch for people finishing up their meal so I could grab their table. There’s no seating process here—it’s every man for himself and people move quickly, which I think give an added excitement to eating here! Once you’ve ordered you’re given an order number which is shouted out when your food is ready so pay attention. We got a few things to share including a burrito “El Dorado” style and a quesadilla, washed down with cold beer—heaven! Our meal was made even more enjoyable (if possible!) by a man decked out in full suit and hat serenading diners with Spanish songs by guitar.
Once you’re satisfied, wander around the Mission at night and watch as people go about their evening. You’re guaranteed to see some interesting folk and it’s an amazing insight into the diversity in the city.
