Railay
Why Railay should be on your Thailand To-Do-List
A playground for the adventurous & idyllic spot for beach bums, Railay has a bunch of adrenaline fueled activities, spectacular beach spots and plenty of reggae bars where you'll easily find yourself ‘jammin’ for hours at a time.
Part of mainland Thailands Krabi province but disconnected by huge limestone cliffs means the only way in and out of Railay is by longtail boat. This plus the fact there is no traffic give Railay an incredible island vibe.
Top things to do
Rock climbing - probably the most popular activity and one of the main reasons tourists flock to Railay is to climb the many famous spots around. It offers everything from Grade 5 expert climbs to your very first climb. Guided climbs start from around 800THB.
Phra Nang Beach - A beautifully picturesque beach secluded from the rest of Railay behind caves. Home to famous Phra Nang Cave and a popular spot for rock climbers or simply people watching.
Railay viewpoint & lagoon - our favourite thing to do on Railay was the trek/climb to the viewpoint & lagoon, but it was far from easy to reach! Its well signposted & on the way to Phra Nang Beach but be prepared to get filthy & only attempt the climb if it is dry! The lagoon is seriously difficult to reach but is one of the most spectacular places you will ever visit! If it wasn't so difficult to reach, we’re confident it would attract thousands of tourists!
Restaurant & Cafes - there are a tonne of cool cafes & restaurant all over Railay, some along its walking street & some beachfront offering the perfect spot for a coffee & to people-watch. Make your way to a beachfront restaurant for 5:30-6 where locals will play football on the beach and chill with a beer as the sun sets.
How to get there
Getting to Railay is simple but can be a fair journey from other spots in Thailand. You will need to head to Krabi which has its own train station, bus station & international airport. Once in Krabi make your way to Ao Nang which is the most popular tourist & holiday destination in Krabi. From Ao Nang pier you can grab a long-tail boat for 100THB for the 10 minute journey to Railay.
