Fairytale-like waterfalls and lakes

National Park Plitvice Lakes, Croatia

National Park Plitvice Lakes, Croatia

Plitvice Lakes National Park is the oldest and largest national park in Croatia. In 1979, it was added to the UNESCO World Heritage register. With its exceptional natural beauty, this park has always attracted nature lovers.

The park’s beautiful nature is full of greenery overlooking the crystal-clear lakes and waterfalls that are placed in the mountainous Lika. Lika is the heart of Croatia, halfway between the capital Zagreb and the Dalmatian coast.

The Plitvice Lakes National Park is famous for its sixteen interconnected lakes and ninety breathtaking waterfalls. There are several kilometers of beautifully landscaped pedestrian paths, electric trains, and shore-side ferries that help you experience the park inland. The National Park is also home to numerous amounts of plants and animals.

Tourists come to Croatia to visit this natural phenomenon all year long. Croatia has four seasons, so you can visit Plitvice Lakes at any time of the year. However, if you want to avoid peak tourist season (July and August) then I suggest that you visit during spring or autumn.

Plitvice Lakes is a great choice for a one-day excursion or a several days journey. If you opt for the latter then you can stay at one of the nearby hotels, traditional vacation homes, or apartments. If you are just passing by then I recommend visiting the Nikola Tesla Memorial Center, Kuterevo Bear Refuge, Sabljaci Lake, Adrenalin Park Plitvice, Watermill village of Rastoke and many more.
