Forest Park Golubinjak

Forest park Golubinjak

Forest Park Golubinjak is an ideal place to relax and enjoy a comfortable company or for families with children. It is located in a geomorphologically interesting area of karst in mountainous Croatia, just one kilometre from the centre of Lokve. Golubinjak was declared a protected forest park in 1955 and covers an area of 51 ha.

At the entrance to the park is a spacious meadow with a mountain lodge that has the offer of a barbecue, a sports field with a bowling alley and a children's playground. There is also a restaurant where you can try a rich selection of mountain dishes.

Hiking and biking trails pass through the park's forests so it is possible to explore this beautiful area while you are doing some of those activities. The forest is dominated by coniferous trees, and certainly the most interesting is the so-called "Queen of the Forest", a huge fir tree over 35 meters high, 140 cm wide and 250 years old.

There are also two caves in the park, Ledena spilja (Ice Cave) and Golubinjak (Pigeon Cave), which are definitely worth a visit because of their interesting appearance. One of the attractions of the park is the Paklena vrata (Hell Gate) - it is a passage in the rock 4 meters wide and 8 meters high with thick walls.

If you are passing by, be sure to visit Golubinjak. If you are not the person for hiking and rock climbing, you can just lie down in the beautiful meadow in the park and rest in silence absorbing the tranquillity of the greenery around you.
