Ölüdeniz, Turkey
(and so many other places!) july 2018
Last year i went to Ölüdeniz in Turkey, it was my favorite travelling trip to date. I travelled with my best friend and it was incredible.
We stayed at a hotel in Ölüdeniz right by the sea in a small town with little shops and places to eat. Ölüdeniz is known for its paragliding experience which if you didn't know its leaping off a cliff with more or less a plastic bag holding you up haha! Now im afriad of heights but i face the fear, hence the leaping off cliffs.
On the seafront of Ölüdeniz there are places where you go in and book activities to do, these things vary from boat rides, tour guides, and paragliding. To paraglide i believe it was 40 Lera which is £6 pound sterling, $7.29 united states dollars, or €6.50 euro. I may be incorrect and it may have changed however that is what i faintly remember haha!
You go with a group of people and travel in a bus up to the cliff..the ride up there was probably more scary than the actual paragliding; the roads were narrow and there were no barriers on the side of the road..But it was a laugh. Once up there you meet with whom you'll fly with, and you'll get suited up. They do a video and take photos of the experience for you to be able to purchase after.
My friend went first and it was quite amusing seeing him sprint off a cliff..I followed shortly after and before i could even comprehend that you're about to leap off a cliff you're already running down the slope and in the air. Its pretty nerve racking however once you're in the air, its incredible. You go through the clouds and the instructor you're with is lovely, well mine was haha! He spoke about my holiday, what i do back home and where i was from..He took vidoes and photos for me and even did some tricks in the air if you ask! We flew next to my best friend and flew over Ölüdeniz, absolutely stunning- i couldn't catch my breath.
Highly, highly, highly recommend it. Just jump.
During the trip we went with a group of people and travelled to places around Turkey. This was my favorite part of the holiday because i really wanted to see different places. We had a group of people with us and a tour guide. I usually enjoy to discover and travel by myself however this was amazing. I met fantastic people. Truly fantastic people and one i was lucky enough to have kept in contact with for the rest of the holiday and when i came back home. It was just amazing.
We travelled to a place called Fethiye, a wonderful little place where we looked at the shops and even found a Starbucks! We sat outside and cooled down with our drinks. The weather when we were there was immense, got up to approximately 40 degrees. We even saw some turtles swimming about here.
From here we travelled to a fantastic place called the ‘Ghost Town’; also highly recommend. This was a really incredible place, we firstly ate lunch at the outside restaurant which was beautiful, before exploring the antique shop. The Ghost town had a really interesting back story which you discover by your tour guide, about who previously lived there and how it got its name of ‘Ghost Town’..You meet some lovely people there too who you come across as you make your way through the town.
Pumukkale is where we next went, very popular for the tourists. I don't blame them. Its beautiful, and excellent for photos. There's also an old Rome Theatre that you can walk up to and Hierapolis; an ancient Roman Spa City founded in 190 BC. You can take a dip into the warm waters, it’s amazing.
The next three pictures are from a place called Ephesus; and ancient Greek city built in the 10th century BC.
Near the end of the trip we took a boat ride to different bays and islands near Ölüdeniz. The bays were beautiful, we had dinner on the boat and jumped off the boat and swam in the sea. The weather was so warm the water was lovely.
We ended the boat ride on an island where we had a massive bonfire and danced. Absolutely stunning, i wish i could have stayed there. I remember sitting looking at the sunset on the way back.
This was most probably the best trip i have been on. It was one of those holidays that you really needed. Doing it with my best friend made it even better, and i truly had such a good time. I not only came home with lovely memories but i came home having met someone in Turkey who is very special to me. A fantastic story which i love to tell haha.
