Cali Street Food (and Art) Tour

At first, I wasn’t sure how I felt about traveling to Colombia only to do a tour with a Dutch guy. But Neils, having lived in Cali for several years, has forged excellent relationships with local vendors to bring the Cali Street Food Tour to life.

Although the word “art” isn’t in the title, it probably should be - considering the first part of the tour is spent explaining how prominent works of street art reveal stories from Colombia’s underbelly. Expect to hear insights into the cocaine trade, domestic violence, political struggles, and Cali pride.

But just when you’re wondering if skipping breakfast was a good idea you arrive at the Cali markets and your taste buds embark on the journey of their dreams. You’ll be sampling everything from ceviche, tamale, catfish stew, fruits that look like they’re from Mars, fruits that don’t taste like fruit at all, cheese, sweet things, gross things, actual bread, and of course a tiny cup of Colombia’s best brew.

Tours depart at 11 am from Viajero Hostel every Tuesday-Saturday and finish around 2 pm. Bookings not necessary.

Cost: 30,000 Colombian pesos.
