Kelingking Beach Nusa Penida
Meet the T-Rex
Bali is very famous for its beautiful unique places. Lesser known are the two islands just off the coast of Bali; Nusa Lembongan and Nusa Penida. The latter was our favorite of these two, mainly because it’s less touristy. We stayed on this island for a couple of days to explore all the hotspots. This blog will be way too long if we share information about all these places, wherefore we will focus on only one of them for now. Of course we will tell more about the other highlights in later blogs.
Nusa Penida is very typical for its amazing cliff coastlines and therefore for its impressive viewpoints. The most famous viewpoint is called the Kelingking “T-rex” viewpoint, as the rock formations of the coastline form the head of a T-Rex. Over time this place has become very popular, especially because there are more and more day trips possible from Bali to Nusa Penida, mainly to this place. At first there was not much around, but nowadays there are several restaurants to provide the tourists some nasi goreng.
Something that not everyone does, but in our opinion an absolute must, is the hike all the way down to Kelingking Beach. It’s a sketchy and steep descend down stairs, so be careful! Believe me; it is not possible to hike down and look around, so take a few breaks to enjoy the views.
Once you are on the beach, you can enjoy the beautiful white sand and the insane blue ocean. But again, be careful! The waves are ridiculously high and the current is very strong. It is very funny to play around in these waves, but don’t go in too deep.
As said, this place is the main attraction of the island, also for day trips. Therefore a lot of people leave in time. We stayed down on the beach until the sun was starting to set, when most people already left. We hiked all the way up; off course with some breaks to take photos of the fantastic views. We even saw a group of Manta Rays!
All in all this is a beautiful place to visit; it is touristic for a reason! We recommend to go here and stay the night on the island, and with that avoid rush hour. Rent a scooter and go by yourself! As always; sunset and sunrise are the best moments… We enjoyed this place almost with just the two of us!
