Tre Cime Di Lavaredo
The mighty peaks!
The dolomites. If you are into mountains, hiking and amazing viewpoints, this is definitely the place to go to. If you are into photography as well, this is 100% the place to go to. Be prepared for the most incredible sceneries Europe has to offer. We were so hyped to go here and were not disappointed at all. We drove around in a campervan to visit all the famous spots, and literally wanted to pull over every second the take photos.
One of the places we were most excited about was Tre Cime di Lavaredo, also known as Drei Zinnen. These three mountain peaks are the center of an amazing national park a lot of hikers visit. It is easy to walk around the three peaks, from where you can admire them, and the surroundings, from many different angles.
We arrived at the national park late at night and parked our van at the parking lot, near Rifugio Aurenzo. Very early in the morning we started to hike, because we wanted to be at a certain viewpoint for sunrise. The “back” of the mountains (the opposite site from where the parking lot is) is the more beautiful and famous side. We wanted to hike all the way to Rifugio Locatelli for the best views. It was amazing to already get a vague impression of the peaks as we were walking around it in the dark. As the sky lighted up more and more, the mountains were getting more clear and impressive.
It doesn’t really matter where you stand, the three peaks are beautiful from every angle in our opinion. After we hiked up the hill behind Rifugio Locatelli, we walked all the way around the three peaks, back to the parking lot. Later on we also shot the glorious peaks at sunset, giving an even more beautiful view.
This was the first place we visited in the Dolomites and we were even more excited about it than we imagined! The entire area is truly amazing and we actually wanted to hike around for many more days if it was possible. Definitely a place to come back to.
