Authentic Greece
Shooting the undiscovered alleyways and locals
Everytime I travel I love to take a few hours and just wander around with my camera. While everyone was sailing the Greek islands and capturing their cocktails on the beach I trekked along the alleyways of Naxos, Greece to get some shots of the lively locals. A world away in many ways from the right now and everyone warped in their regular day-to-day existence, I found myself so inspired by the tranquil simplicity of these people. Immersing yourself in another country’s way of life is the best way to have a truly authentic experience. These kids running around as their grandfather kept watch is so iconic to the culture of the Greek people. Generations both young and old live and come together supporting the most crucial ideal of life....family.
I didn't realize until I got to Europe that clothes dryers are very much a western thing. Whether it be summer or winter clothes are hung outside. I loved seeing how so many thing we THINK we need or can't live without are really not that necessary.
While tourists and giant cruise ships flock to the insta-famous Santorini, Naxos remains one of the Cyclades’ best hidden gems.
The island is still unheard of by many foreign visitors, despite being just an hour from Mykonos and several more from Athens, but, trust me, it’s more than worth your time. Take your time exploring this underrated treasure and you could soon feel yourself falling in love with an island that has every shade of blue under the sun.
An easy place to start discovering Naxos’ charm is the old town – also known as “Chora”. It’s the first place you’ll see when hopping off the ferry at the main port. Here, I’d recommend wandering down the bustling sea front promenade.
