Rainbows and Waterfalls
Maui was our third of four Islands to visit on this ten day tour of the Hawaiian Islands. It is the second largest of the islands.
We started our day driving to the top of Haleakala crater and had a bit of a late start. Luckily for us the Clouds were just moving off the peak to give us some nice views.
A dormant volcano that last erupted in the late 1700’s it looks as if your on another planet.
Their is also and observatory that you can tour and explore at the peak of Haleakala.
Everyone told us we have to drive Hana highway for the natural beauty and dozens of waterfalls along the way.
The coastline on the drive was breathtaking and changed throughout the drive.
Like Kauai there are hiking trails everywhere to explore. Most lead to waterfalls that are so relaxing to sit by snd take in the view.
One of the more prominent falls is Wailua falls, a short hike will get you to this waterfall where you can also take a dip.
Pipiwai trail takes you thru mature bamboo that makes you feel like your in Japan.
There are places to stop and get drinks and a bit to eat along the highway. We grabbed a quick drink here and then on our way.
There are beaches where the volcanic rock has been pounded down to sand giving a unique beach look.
There are just too many waterfalls to see them all in a short time. If your love is waterfalls than Hana Highway is your Utopia.
A short day and a half on Maui just was not enough time. We keep realizing that ten days and four islands just is not enough time to really take in all that Hawaii has to offer.
Next stop is Oahu three days to see the sites and exolore our last island on this ten day trip.
