At the Southern tip of New Zealand, the Milford Sounds is one of the worlds most beautiful and isolated locations to visit in the country. The quietness and solitude of the area is part of the charm; the nearest town - Te Anau - is a two hour drive away, theres no phone signal and nothing in the way of shops or fuel stations. Make sure your tank and your snack pile are well stocked before you start the journey!
Looking out across the sounds
The Jucy Cruise operates multiple times a day and transports visitors from the shore out into the magnificence sound. You’ll witness this natural fjord, surrounded by towering mountains and huge waterfalls up close. It becomes easy to see why Peter Jackson used the location extensively in the Lord of the Rings and Hobbit movie series.
The cruise slowly meanders around the fjord whilst an informative and charismatic skipper provides a commentary on the key features to observe. Not only are the surroundings impressive but the sheer range of wildlife is outstanding. Don’t be surprised if you spot seals, penguins and dolphins frolicking in the cool waters or swimming alongside the boat!
