A Memorable Journey: Hoi An to Hue with Mr. Sinh

Our private minivan Ford Transit

Our journey from Hoi An to Hue private car was one of those experiences you never forget. It wasn’t just about getting from one place to another—it was about the journey itself. My family and I had heard great things about traveling in a private car, and after some research, we decided to book a ride with a local driver, Mr. Sinh. Little did we know, he would turn our trip into something truly special.

We left Hoi An early in the morning. The sun was just beginning to rise, casting a soft glow over the ancient town as we said our goodbyes to the lantern-lit streets and charming riverside cafes. Mr. Sinh arrived promptly at our hotel, greeting us with a warm smile. His car was clean and comfortable, with plenty of space for our luggage. As we settled in, he made sure we were comfortable and asked if we had any specific places we wanted to stop along the way.

We had heard about the famous Hai Van Pass and asked if we could take that route. Mr. Sinh nodded enthusiastically, assuring us that we would take the scenic road and see some incredible sights along the way. With that, we were off.

As we left the town behind, Mr. Sinh began sharing stories about the places we were passing. His English was excellent, and his knowledge of the area was impressive. He told us about the history of Hoi An, and the significance of the rice fields we saw, and he even pointed out local spots where we could find the best food.

Our first stop was Marble Mountains, just outside of Da Nang. Mr. Sinh parked the car and encouraged us to explore. We spent some time wandering through the caves and temples, marveling at the intricate carvings and stunning views from the top. When we returned to the car, Mr. Sinh was waiting patiently, ready to continue our journey.

Next, we drove through Da Nang, and Mr. Sinh gave us a mini-tour of the city as we passed through. He showed us the Dragon Bridge, which is famous for its nightly fire and water show, and the beautiful My Khe Beach, where the white sand stretches for miles.

But the highlight of the trip was the Hai Van Pass. As we began the climb, the road twisted and turned, revealing breathtaking views of the coastline. The lush green mountains on one side and the deep blue sea on the other were a sight to behold. Mr. Sinh expertly navigated the winding road, stopping at the best viewpoints so we could take pictures and soak in the scenery.

At the top of the pass, we stopped at an old French bunker. The structure was a reminder of the area’s history, and Mr. Sinh explained how it had been used during the wars. From there, we could see all the way back to Da Nang in one direction and the sprawling city of Hue in the other. The view was simply spectacular.

As we descended from the pass, the landscape began to change. The mountains gave way to flatter lands, and soon we were driving through lush countryside dotted with small villages. Mr. Sinh continued to share interesting facts and stories, making the long drive feel much shorter.

Before we knew it, we had arrived in Hue. Mr. Sinh dropped us off at our hotel, helping us with our bags and making sure we were settled before saying goodbye. We thanked him for the wonderful journey and for being such a knowledgeable and friendly guide.

Looking back, I realized that the trip from Hoi An to Hue with Mr. Sinh was more than just transportation. It was an adventure filled with beautiful landscapes, rich history, and personal connections. Mr. Sinh wasn’t just a driver—he was a storyteller, a guide, and a friend. He turned what could have been just a drive into one of the most memorable parts of our trip to Vietnam. If you ever find yourself in Hoi An or Hue, I highly recommend taking the journey with Mr. Sinh. It’s an experience you won’t forget.
