The Beauty of Andalucia

Mezquita

Cordoba Cordoba

From the bodegas, to the wine bars, to the architecture, Cordoba has to be one of my favorite places to go. Down in the south of Spain, Cordoba is a city that flaunts its Moorish inspired architecture and its rich culture. Cordoba also flaunts the Mesquita Cathedral, which is the most symbolic and beautiful building in Cordoba. Walking along the guadalquivir river and watching the sun go down next to the Mesquita is one of my favorite things to do when I visit. Catching an outdoor movie on a cool summer night is also high on my list of favorites after a day of shopping in La Ribera District. There are so many things to do in Cordoba and every time I go I find something new.

The inner of Mesquita The inner of Mesquita

Right next to the Guadalquivir river, that flows through the roman bridge, the Mesquita stands golden and beautiful by the riverbank.

Known for its colored arches and colonnades the building almost seems regal in nature.

Originally meant to be a mosque, the mesquita became a catholic church when the Romans conquered the area. Instead of changing the colors to resemble other catholic churches, the Romans decided to keep the typical shades of a mosque. And when I see the Mesquita by the river when the sun is setting, I can see why they decided not to change it. If you go be sure to take pictures of the famous archways inside!

Ronda, an unexpected village Ronda, an unexpected village

I hadn’t heard about the village of Ronda until last summer. Ronda is a little village that sits on the top of a rock surrounded by arid mountains. Famously known for being the birthplace of bull-fighting, Ronda’s old city still has historic architecture like bullrings and temples! Overlooking the lush area around it, this village feels like a kingdom from a fantasy. I thought I had seen it all until I laid eyes on Ronda and its famous bridge. Bridging the gap over a 100m deep chasm, this bridge created views that are indescribable. Whenever I speak of Spain, I never forget to talk about Ronda, the village that took my breath away.
