A Magic Carpet Ride Through Arab Street
Arab Street, Singapore
Me: "Excuse me. Can you ship carpets to the United States?"
Shop Owner: "Yes we can."
I was seriously contemplating whether or not to text my mom that she will receive a carpet from Singapore with a week.
Surprise, Mom!
I was highly considering it because these shops had endless amounts of lanterns, carpets, wind chimes, handbags, clothing, interior, and exterior Turkish decorations. Every shop was filled with handcrafted goods that was too good not to pass, or buy.
To be honest, I am not a huge shopper, but when I came here, it definitely changed my mind. I would go into a shop and think, "Hmm, Would this look good in my future living room or office? I talked myself out of it because I brought a 55L backpack, which was already filled with things from Little India and Chinatown. I bought too many things on my first day in Singapore.
The first time I went to Arab Street, it began to rain really hard which resulted in me going back to my hostel. I had to come back for a second time. I could not get enough of everything that was there in a small radius.
I ate at one of the many Middle Eastern restaurants, which have vegetarian options. I never devoured hummus and couscous so fast in my life.
The second time I went to Arab Street, I walked inside the Masjid Sultan, which is one of the most popular and breathtaking mosques in Singapore. If you get the chance, go inside. They will provide robes as a first come first serve basis.
