Eating My Way Through Taipei
Raohe Night Market Taipei, Taiwan
Raohe Night Market is one of the oldest and longest night markets in Taipei. It consists of stalls including food, clothing, jewelry, handmade goods, games, claw machines, electronics, and much more.
The Raohe Night Market is home to the famous Taiwanese Black Pepper Bun. This popular treat brings people from all over the world.
My Taiwanese friend met a couple who came to Taipei and Raohe Night Market specifically for the Balck pepper bun. They purposely made a layover in Taipei to try the food, because That’s what Taiwan is known for.
These buns are made from a special oven that is difficult to find which is why Raohe has marked its spot with the black pepper bun, right at the entrance of the market.
There is vegetarian food here, such as ice cream rolls, fresh fruits, and veggies, noodles, sweets, and dessert treats.
One of my favorite treat is glazed tomatoes and fruits. The vegetables and fruits are put on a skewer and rolled over in a sugary coating, creating a glass-like look on the outside. Once it cools, it creates a sweet, hard, and crunchiness to it.
Another favorite thing I like to eat at the night market is the peanut ice cream roll. There is a block of peanut that is shaved. It is topped with ice cream and cilantro. It may seem weird to have cilantro on this, but it creates a contrast and refreshing flavor and having a crunching texture with the peanut shavings.
Most of the food at the night markets range from 35-60 NTD, which is about $1 - 2 USD.
If you go here, I highly encourage bigger or stretchy pants. The food here is so delicious and cheap, you would not want to stop eating!
