Visiting Taiwan's Grand Canyon
Taroko National Park, Hualien County, Taiwan
Taroko National Park is considered being Taiwan's Grand Canyon. It is full of lush mountains, waterfalls, hiking trails, with turquoise rivers flowing.
Taroko is just outside of Hualien City about a 50-minute bus ride. You can get to Taroko National Park from Hualien train station for less than one US dollar. You can get there for 11 NTD and 11 NTD back. You can get to Taroko by using the MRT/Bus card, which is the transportation used throughout Taiwan. The transportation pass makes it very convenient for travelers since you don't need to go up to the ticket counter for your ticket to go on the bus. The buses that run throughout Taroko come every hour or so. Some of the stops in Taroko National Park are one-way. You either have to walk up or down another trail or walk further down to take the bus back into Hualien or another stop to take a different path.
I hopped off at Tianxiang, which is the very last stop. The bus ride took about 1-1.5 hours from Hualien Train Station. The best part about this stop, there is a 7-Eleven, washrooms, and restaurants at that top. I hiked the Baiyang Trail, which took about 2-2.5 hours. I highly suggest this trail because even though it is further away, there is food available since there are limited restaurants in the park. This trail has dark tunnels you walk through. It's best to bring a flashlight or use your phone's with you. At the very end of the trail, you can walk through a dark cave and see a small waterfall falling through the cave.
Taroko National Park is full of trails to view our nature and Hike lover. Taroko is the place to go, especially if you want more of a slow pace, chill vibe, and be surrounded by nature and mesmerizing mountains.
