Cork and Cobh

Cobh

After Dublin, I hopped in my rental car and headed for my second destination; Cork. After a short 2.5 hour drive, I checked into Sheila's Hostel and started asking locals what I needed to do and see during my one day in Cork

The first thing I went to see was the English Market in the city. It was maybe a 10 minute walk from the hostel. I didn’t purchase anything, but I still very much recommend stopping by while you’re in Cork. When I exited the market, there were some buskers in the park across the street so I sat down and watched them play for a little bit.

After that, I got in my car and drove to the nearby town, Cobh. Several people mentioned that I must see this small harbor town. Cobh is small but colorful and full of history. The first thing you notice coming in is the St Colman's Cathedral, you really cannot miss it. Note: if you are driving in, the Cathedral is a good place to park. It is also a perfect place to start the short, but amazing journey through Cobh.

Another thing Cobh is known for is being the very last stop of the famous cruise ship, RMS Titanic. Located at the final departing point, they have “The Titanic Experience” which takes participants through a guided tour to reminisce of the final passengers of this historic vessel. Upon completion, the guests will be able to see artifacts and learn a little bit more about the ship and it’s passengers.

Once I was settled back at the Hostel, I went to bed rather early because my alarms were set for 0400 so I could catch sunrise before heading west coast for a few days
