Kyoto Shrine
Fushimi Inari Shrine is an important Shinto shrine in southern Kyoto. It is famous for its thousands of vermilion torii gates, which straddle a network of trails behind its main buildings. The trails lead into the wooded forest of the sacred Mount Inari, which stands at 233 meters and belongs to the shrine grounds.
Fushimi Inari is the most important of several thousands of shrines dedicated to Inari, the Shinto god of rice. Foxes are thought to be Inari's messengers, resulting in many fox statues across the shrine grounds.
Fushimi Inari Shrine has ancient origins, predating the capital's move to Kyoto in 794.
Our day here was perfect, warm and sunny and on the way up you have to pass multiple red gates. Each one is named a torri gate, donated by a japanese merchant
Perfect scenery for taking beautiful pictures, and on the plus side you will get an amazing view of Kyoto, so don’t miss that. You can climb as far as you wish. The full hike will take 2 to 3 hours so perhaps choose a cooler day if you are not a big fan of the heat.
Whether you’ve been here or not you have definitely seen this place plastered across instagram!
You will have to wait a little bit if you want to take a picture alone.
Every part of this shrine is truly amazing and the red colors of the gates contrast beautifully with the green of the luxurious forest around.
If you would like to do some shopping for gifts, the main road at the entrance is full of really cool shops. We spotted some Hello Kitty souvenirs that will make you smile every time you look at them
