Australia Road Trip: Sydney to Byron Bay
5 must-see stops from Sydney to Byron Bay
We took a 14 day RV trip around Australia and it was such an unforgettable experience.
We started in Sydney where the highlights were touring the Opera House, taking a harbour cruise to Manly Beach, getting lunch at The Rocks district, strolling through the Royal Botanic Gardens, climbing to the Pylon Lookout on the Harbour Bridge and swimming at Bondi Beach.
Bouddi National Park was our first stop. The swirling liesegang rings on the sandstone cliffs had an unworldly beauty. Start at Putty Beach and take the Coastal Track for the best views
Our next stop was a World Heritage Rainforest in Dorrigo National Park. Take the Skywalk Lookout over the jungle canopy then hike down to the Crystal Shower Falls.
Coff’s Harbour is the perfect spot to grab a bite to eat. We recommend the cafe Twenty46 for tasty locally grown dishes, or Cafe Aqua for an outdoor brunch. For the best views, visit Forest Sky Pier.
My favorite stop was Emerald Beach. You’ll find herds of kangaroos grazing along the steep cliffs at the “Look At Me Now” headland. It was absolutely magical.
We finally made it to Byron Bay and loved the laid back hipster vibe. Byron Bay was voted 3rd place in the Traveler’s Choice Awards for the best vacation spot.
This is the home of Chris Hemsworth and is a celebrity hot spot. Byron Bay is known for its world class surf beaches, but be sure to take the Lighthouse Walk and swim in the Minyon Falls at Nightcap National Park.
If you’re taking an Australia road trip, we hope you make time for these stops!
