Exploring Sydney Australia

Things to do and places to go in Sydney

I had dreamed of visiting Australia every since I was little, so it was surreal to actually be there. The iconic Sydney Opera House is a must see. If you can, get tickets to see a show or take an intimate backstage tour. Be sure to grab a Margherita pizza from the Opera Bar!

Take a stroll along Circular Quay. Enjoy dinner on the patio at sunset, book a harbour cruise, and visit the historic Customs House Museum.

I would highly recommend taking a harbour cruise to see the city from the water. We took a short ferry ride to Manly Wharf where we enjoyed the beachside shops and cafes, as well as relaxing on the shores of Manly Beach.

The Royal Botanic Gardens are a breath of fresh air. Pack a picnic to eat under an ancient tree and take time to wander around the walking paths. Be sure to stop at the rose garden. You can enjoy a free guided tour of the gardens and the Government House.

Hyde Park is another beautiful city park and gardens. Highlights are the Anzac Memorial and St Mary’s Cathedral.

Visiting the Sydney Harbour Bridge is also a must. You can take a bridge climb tour to the top, or for a fraction of the cost try the Pylon Lookout.

Darling Harbour has a fun energy in the air. Visit the bustling fish market, or enjoy the serenity of the Chinese Garden of Friendship. There is also a fantastic children’s playground and a large shopping mall perfect for finding inexpensive souvenirs.

Of course, no trip to Sydney is complete without a stop at Bondi Beach. Swim in the Icebergs ocean pool and enjoy the views from the Bondi-Bronte-Coogee Coastal Cliff Walk. We hope you enjoy exploring Sydney as much as we did!
