Parasailing Above The French Riviera

France // 2019

The French Riviera, also known as Côte d’Azur, is an incredible European summer destination! It’s got everything you’re looking for on the checklist of “must-haves” for a great vacation! No matter what you’re looking for, I’m sure it’s got it - beach, cuisine, shopping, hiking, sightseeing, you name it! The most famous destinations are probably Nice and Cannes, known to be beautiful coastal towns (with excellent reason) and of course Monaco, the tiny country that takes about an hour to walk through from end to end. I highly rate visiting the region, I stayed in Nice which I found was a perfect location to be able to get the train back and forth to other towns for day trips!

Another good thing about Nice is that it is quite populated but still very big! You definitely shouldn’t come here if you’re looking for empty sand beaches, because they aren’t sandy and they definitely aren’t empty. However, it is over such a long stretch and the water is so perfect, that the crowds don’t even bother much! With this being said, the crowds also attract experience companies, which are a perfect way to spice up your vacation!

We decided to go parasailing to see the coast from a different perspective and it was incredible! We booked it through tingly which is a company that sells pre-packaged experiences that are super easy to book so that we didn’t have to wait! - The coast line is beautiful no matter where you look from, but having that added height on the vantage is a great way to see Nice in all of its glory! It really is only from up here that you can see the landscape that it’s built in to, and the mountainous backdrop is a gorgeous site!

Location: the main watersports providers along the main beach promenade of Nice, are right in front of Hotel Negresco. If you are coming from the old town it’s about a 10 minute walk from where the old town meets the promenade (westly direction). Regarding the actual activity, I had never tried taking off like this before - as I had only tried taking off directly from a boat and then being wheeled out and back in.

This time around, it was a little more thrilling to be honest! You basically run from the beach, straight into flight! You’ll be attached to a boat that starts just off shore, which will go as you start running and then as the chute fills with air, you’ll have LIFT OFF! this is such a fun activity to do with friends or loved ones, or of course solo if you prefer! Most providers offered solo, double and even triple harness chutes! I can highly recommend this if you’re going because it really does give you unparalleled views of the coast and of course the town of Nice and mountains behind it!

As an added fun bonus, the boat captain will typically slow down when it turns around at the stretch of the coast and dip you in the water once or twice during the u-turn process! Not a bad way to get a bit of sea spray haha! Also when landing, the boat will go full speed toward shore, then come to a complete stop, at which point you literally just float down and land in the beautiful cool blue ocean! Was a perfect day to enjoy the first swim of the day!

Happy adventuring friends!
