How to get to Quy Nhon coastal city

Best way to get to Quy Nhon city

Quy Nhon, a coastal city located between Nha Trang and Hoi An, is one of Vietnam's hidden gems. With its stunning 42-kilometer coastline, lush mountains, rice fields, and ancient Champa towers, this area offers a unique experience for travelers. Despite its beauty, Quy Nhon remains relatively undiscovered.

By Air

Getting to Quy Nhon is straightforward. Domestic airlines operate flights to the city from Ho Chi Minh City and Hanoi. International visitors must connect through these major hubs. Approximately ten direct flights from Ho Chi Minh City and three to four from Hanoi land in Quy Nhon daily. Airlines such as VietJet Air, Jetstar, and Vietnam Airlines serve these routes.

Phu Cat Airport, located about 30 kilometers northwest of the city center on a former American airbase, opened in May 2018 and is set up for international flights in the future. Upon arrival at the airport, travelers can find various taxi services or pre-book with DichungTaxi for convenience. Taxi fares start at around 200,000 VND (approximately $8.50 USD) for small cars up to 380,000 VND ($16.50 USD) for larger vehicles. A shuttle bus option is also available at just 50,000 VND ($2 USD) per person.

By Train

For those preferring rail travel, Quy Nhon Railway Station connects with only one train daily from Ho Chi Minh City—a long overnight journey lasting about 13 hours. A more practical option is taking a train to Dieu Tri Railway Station which is roughly a 25-minute drive from downtown Quy Nhon. Trains run frequently between Hanoi and Dieu Tri as well as from Ho Chi Minh City.

Traveling by train offers breathtaking views along the way but requires some planning; it takes about ten to twelve hours from Ho Chi Minh City at a cost of around 800,000 VND ($34.50 USD) for a berth in a four-sleeper cabin or approximately twenty hours from Hanoi costing about 1,000,000 VND ($43 USD). For easy access to schedules and bookings without needing a Vietnamese credit card, travelers can use Baolau’s travel search engine; booking tickets at least one day ahead is recommended.

Once confirmed via e-ticket with booking numbers provided online or through Baolau’s service platform—travelers can print their physical tickets upon arrival at the station.

By Bus

Quy Nhon Bus Station is located at the southern end of the city, near Big C Supermarket. Several bus companies run services between Quy Nhon and nearby cities, making it a budget-friendly travel option. However, travelers should be prepared for longer ride times than anticipated.

For those traveling from Ho Chi Minh City, sleeper buses leave daily from Mien Dong Bus Station. The journey takes about 12 to 14 hours, with most buses departing in the evening so passengers can rest overnight. Key operators on this route include Phuc Thuan Thao and Futa Bus. Tickets are priced around 260,000 VND (approximately $11 USD), and booking is simple through Baolau.

Additionally, buses are available from other cities like Da Nang, Nha Trang, Da Lat, and Pleiku. Hotel staff in these locations can assist with arrangements for travel to Quy Nhon.

By Private Car

If you're coming from a nearby city and prefer the convenience of your own vehicle, you can rent a private car or minivan for your journey. Taking a private car from Hoi An to Quy Nhon is a super convenient and flexible way to make the journey between the historic town and Quy Nhon. Price will be from 170$ for 4 seater car.

If you're in Da Nang city, a private car from Da Nang to Quy Nhon is always available. Private car prices departing from Da Nang are only from $175, including 1 bottle of water per guest and free wifi on the car. Visitors can stop along the way for lunch at their discretion or ask the driver for recommendations.
