Ayres del Sur
Argentinian meat in Barcelona.
Ayres del Sur (or "South Breeze") is located in the fast-growing neighborhood of Poble Nou, in the North East part of the city. It's near Marina Street, one of the streets near La Sagrada Familia, and it’s pretty close to the basilica. The place is managed by Diego, a really nice and meat-loving Argentinian. For those who don’t know, I am also Argentinian, so I spent a long time talking with Diego the way that you talk when you find a fellow countryman outside your country.
Here I tried three different dishes. First, as usual, fried empanadas. This is a worldwide renowned Argentinian dish, a pastry packet filled with meat and vegetables. There is not only one recipe of empanadas, but there are as many recipes as there are Argentinians in the world :).
Next, I had a 600 gr. (21 oz.) piece of meat called “Vacío” ("empty" in English because it doesn't have any bones). This is a traditional meat piece that we put in the “asador” (barbecue).
I completed the meal with a Volcán de Dulce de Leche that is essentially a chocolate volcano but instead of chocolate, it has caramel inside (or dulce de leche, as we call it). Truly, it was the bomb!
I don't know if you know it but the biggest Argentinian community outside Argentina is in Spain and inside it, Catalonia hosts the largest number of Argentinians. So, if you really want to try the famous Argentinian meat outside of Argentina, come to Barcelona :)
