Our Stay At The Caramel Boutique Hotel
Rethymnon, Crete
There’s something about the color white that makes it quintessentially mediterranean. It’s simple and clean, able to bring architecture to life while, at the same time, maintaining an inviting warmth lacked by cooler hues. The folks at the Caramel Resort (A Grecotel Property), understand this well.
Upon pulling up to the entrance, the boutique hotel’s all-white facade rises to greet you, a precursor to the motif employed heavily throughout the resort grounds. White cabanas pepper the poolside and a secluded lagoon, the white stone paths you walk, and white couches, loungers and loveseats glitter the suites and common areas.
Coming to the Caramel, it was easy for us to get lost in reverie, whether it was on quick, evening walks down to the old Venetian Harbor or in the act of creating a new ritual, a morning coffee and side of fresh figs, at the Caramel’s restaurant which overlooks the white sand lagoon. At times I felt like I was in a movie.
The entire island has that effect. The atmosphere and sense of leisure begin to infect you, until you become a different version of yourself, what your better nature would have you be, unstressed and unhurried. I couldn’t have asked for a better time and I can’t wait to head back.
The Caramel provides a laid back ‘away from it all’ feeling with winding trails leading out to the secluded waterfront and lagoon. You’ll appreciate the incredible attention to detail in the resort’s design aesthetic, but be careful; The glass lamps, beautiful sculptures, and colorful handmade tiles might just inspire a home renovation of your own!
You can book a two story villa with a private pool for a little over $1000 per night. Or standard rooms and bungalows start st around $300. Call the hotel to find out any special promotions their offering!

It was truly one of the most authentic dining experiences we’ve ever had. Thank you, Crete, for the trip of a lifetime!
