Desserts in Stockholm
Fika - Kanelbullar - Selma - Chokladboll
We had a little break from our adventures, so we got a “fika”. Fika in Sweden is similar to a coffee break. Going for a fika is a very Swedish thing, and basically means to meet up for a coffee or a piece of cake or pastry. Fika is also a pastry with cinnamon and sugar, so naturally we had to try one. We had a Kanelbullar as well, which is a Swedish cinnamon roll
In the evening, after a long walk around Galma stan we were craving for something sweet. The most famous dessert in Stockholm is semla (semlor is plural for semla). Semla is a Swedish cream bun (a cardamom version of Scottish cream buns), which has a marzipan-type filling, whipped cream, and is dusted with powdered sugar.
The next day we were wandering around Stockholm’s center looking for a coffee shop. Instead, we found a lovely pastry shop. I had a Chokladboll, which is a chocolate ball dipped in chocolate. It had a caramel flavor with coffee and vanilla. My husband had a Butterkaka, a cinnamon bun cake with almond paste and vanilla custard. Both of them were very delicious!
If you ever visit Sweden, I definitely recommend stopping to get a fika and trying some of the delicious local fare!.
