Train ride to the Great Wall.
S2 Train to the Badaling Great Wall.
Beijing has one of the biggest subway networks in the world. Interestingly enough, one of its many extensive train lines will take us to one of the World’s Wonders, the Great Wall of China.
But first, it is highly advisable to get the smart card aka Yikatong; dubbed by locals (as pictured).
The card equally functions like Oyster Card in London or Singapore’s Ezlink.
It facilitates primarily to hassle-free and better transportation experience as we avoid the crowd for ticket purchase.
A train ride from downtown Beijing to the Great Wall is only made possible via the S2 train. The Huangtudian Railway Station primarily runs such shuttle trips.
In order to get to the Huangtudian, we can utilize the city’s subway network Line 13. We will disembark at Huoying station.
Follow the prominent signage at the Huoying station which directs towards the Huangtudian Railway station. It is roughly a five minute walking distance.
Upon arriving at the Huangtudian station, we can purchase the one way ticket to Badaling.
The purchase is only possible by cash and on the day of travel itself. Or we can use the Yikatong with minimum balance of CNY18.
The ticket costs CNY 7/way.
The train ride will last for about one hour and a half. Enjoy the view as it looks perfectly gorgeous regardless of any seasons.
The entrance to the Great Wall is approximately ten minute walking distance from the Badaling Station.
We can also opt for free shuttle buses that run between the station and the Great Wall entrance.
Thanks to the S2 train service, getting to the Great Wall has never been convenient. And most importantly, it is affordable. Enjoy!
