Yoga on the beach, swimming in waterfalls and sipping on coconuts as you watch the sunset over the Arabian Sea. Sounds like a dream right? Goa might just be my new favourite summer holiday destination as a broke traveller, with the Indian rupee making living expenses extremely cheap. After my tour around Northern India, I decided to have some down time by the beautiful beaches in the south. I flew from Delhi to Goa for around £30 and stayed in both a gorgeous (expensive) hotel, as well as a clean and safe hostel (in an air conditioned female dorm) for around £3, where I made the most amazing friends from around the globe. Keep reading for some of the things I did and would recommend if you ever decide to visit this tropical paradise

Beaches of Panjim

Full of gorgeous beaches (which were very quiet when I was there in September), Panjim is one of the most popular places in North Goa, with horses running along the bay in the early mornings and a music and dancing on the beach after sunset. Head to Panjim markets for a good deal on clothes and jewellery.

2. The Famous Baga beach

Probably Goa’s most famous beach, you can party on the bay at sunset with sand between your toes but watch out for all the cows! Eat at Brittos cafe when you’re on Baga beach where you will pay roughly around £5 for an amazing meal and a cocktail.  Baga is one of the top party spots in Goa. There are many nightclubs and discos.

Palolem beach

Stay in Palolem if you can, it’s south Goa which means you’ll have to get a 2 hour bus ride or a taxi from the airport which is the North, but having stayed in both the North and South I would definitely recommend the South. It has better beaches, more markets, beautiful attractions and a lot of other travellers (which you will appreciate when you’re in a country where you stand out like a sore thumb). The markets along Palolem beach road are just amazing but don’t buy on the first price! You’ll be able to buy things for at least half of what they initially try selling for.

Agonda beach

About 10 km away from Palolem, this is the beach where you will find all the colourful huts that you can even stay in for around £5 a night.
