Rice Queen
One of Melbourne's Best Oriental Foodie Spots
Brunswick Street in Fitzroy is something you have to experience whilst visiting Melbourne if you want to see how true locals live off the beaten tourist track. One of the trendiest areas in the city, fitzroy is lined with indie cafes and strong coffee culture, where the weirder you dress, the cooler you seem to be.
Served by a hipster from New Zealand, we were seated on a hexagonal table under Japanese lanterns surrounded by the buzz of Thursday night on Brunswick Street.
My eyes glazed straight to the green curry and my heart (and my stomach) was instantly set. "Sous-vide broccoli in a fragrant curry sauce served with green chillies, snow peas, corriander and green peppercorns" and a side of Roti Chanai please!
During the day it's bright and colourful for coffee, cocktails and catch-ups. And at night it's cozy yet classy for a special occasion or night out with your mates.
My favourite is to sit by the window and watch indie fitzroy-ians go past. I once went at an awkward afternoon hour of about 4pm where their kitchen was closed for lunch and not yet open for dinner, and the lovely bar tender whipped up some free snacks for me to enjoy with my Yuzu Spritz!
Rice Queen even has it's own separate Karaoke room which is open every day of the week! So after dinner you can get your drink on (and your inner Beyonce) for some fun behind the mike with the girls!
There are so many great spots on this one street, which makes it the perfect place for an evening out, bar hopping and eating out. A few of my favourite spots on this street include The Provincial Hotel, a stunning roof top bar with fairy lights and a great vibe, and Naked for Satan, which has $1 Tapas and a dark, romantic vintage interior, also with a roof top bar that has amazing views of Melbourne City. If you're into the foodie scene, make sure to try Veggie Bar as well, where everything on the menu is vegetarian and DELICIOUS, they also have an awesome beer garden out the back and stunning decor.
