Where to Stay in Dubrovnik, Croatia
The best neighbourhoods to stay in when visiting
There are 3 main areas in Dubrovnik, all with their own perks and wonders. The old town is ideal because it’s really the only place you’ll want to be every day, and is the main tourist attraction of Dubrovnik. It will be noticeably more pricey than the outskirts, but probably worth it considering you don’t have to get a bus to and from the centre every day.
Lapad is considered the “New town” and is full of beautiful bars and restaurants, with stunning beaches alongside them and green vines hanging along the gorgeous cafes. This vibey area is where most of the fancier hotels are, and for the right purpose, is probably the most expensive. It’s just a 15-20 min scenic walk to the old town but there is a lot to see and do here as well.
Gruz, where our guest house was, is about a 20 min walk from Lapad, further away from the old town. It's the cheapest area as it’s further away from the old town, but it’s walkable and busses cost around £3 return. Gruz (pronounced “Grooj”) is also beautiful, as it’s right on the port of Dubrovnik, and as you have to walk up many stairs, the views of the city, harbour, and mountains in the distance, are just breathtaking.
