Riomaggiore - Cinque Terre series pt. 1

The first day and the day after

Riomaggiore’s Harbor

When visiting Cinque Terre you’ll most likely take the plane to Genoa, and then travel to the Cinque Terre by car. At least, that’s what we did, when we visited last summer. We arrived shortly after 1 PM at the airport, where after we then hired a car and drove towards Moneglia: a small town, where we had hired an awesome Airbnb, not too far away from the Cinque Terre. It’s a great town to sleep at, even though there’s not too much to do in the town itself. For that, you’d have to go to the Cinque Terre itself, and I highly recommend you do that by train.

Anyway, the next day we actually went to the Cinque Terre itself: to Riomaggiore to be more exact. In order to arrive at the center and beach itself from the train station, you’ll first have to walk up. This surprised me at first since you’d normally walk downwards in order to go to the lower beach.

When we arrived it was well worth the walk: for the first time, we witnessed the typical coloured Cinque Terre houses. We didn’t stay for too long, because after we had savored the beauty of the town, and rested a bit on the stone-beach, we went on to visit the next town on the list: Manarola. We went to this town by boat. Yes, apart from the train there are public boats as well, to move from town to town!
