Our Finland & Norway Roadtrip
A once in a lifetime experience
So at the end of December, my friends invited me to come along on a road trip to Finland and Norway. I had been to Finland once early 2018 but during my time there we unfortunately didn't get to see the northern lights and during our week there we only had cloudy weather. Therefore I decided to tag along on this amazing road trip which was going to last a month. We went for such a long time as we had to start in Frankfurt by picking up our van to start out journey. From Frankfurt we made our way to copenhagen were we took a ferry to Helsinki. This is were Conor and I picked up our friends Jakob and Julius and we were finally able to start our journey through Finland.
First we made our way up to Ruuka a beautiful area in the middle of finland. Places we wanted to visit around here were Oulanka National park, Rissitunturi and Iso Kyote, three beautiful area's very different from each other. After a couple of beautiful days here, we made our way to the north. To a village called Ivalo. We were now in the very north of Lapland with temperatures decreasing to -33 degrees. Aurora village was our stay for the week and we spent our time snowmobiling, ice go carting, petting reindeers and enjoying our time. This was the first time we got to see some amazing northern lights above our cabin but unfortunately it only lasted around 15 minutes. Luckily we still had a month to go so we weren't too upset and these 15 minutes were some of the most overwhelming minutes I have ever experienced in my life. Seeing the northern lights dance above you is an unexplainable but such a beautiful feeling.
After our amazing time in northern Lapland we made our way to Levi where we met Alex who I had met in Indonesia for a day and we decided to invite Alex to come along our adventure for a couple of days. The weather the following days was not great and therefor we decided to drive to Senja in the north of norway. The KP looked very promosing reaching up to 6 the following night and therefor we drove 8 hours straight to Segla to make sure we were able to hike it around that time. We arrived perfectly on time, hiked up and we were already greeted with some beautiful lights above us. What happened after, I never expected. The lights we saw were some of the most beautiful onces we could have ever wished for, we couldn't believe our eyes.
The following days we spent enjoying chasing the northern lights around the islands before making our way to Lofoten were we spent one more week. Our time in Lofoten was amazing, were the weather was changing every other hour changing from extremely beautiful sunny to conditions were we weren't able to see a couple feet further than us.
