Exploring The Magical Jokulsarlon Area

JOKULSARLON You might think you have seen everything Iceland has to offer and that nothing can beat it until you see the Jokulsarlon, which is Iceland’s famous glacier lagoon. Seeing massive chunks of crystal clear blue ice just sitting on the water is simply remarkable. We actually came here at 1 am and thought where are all the ice chunks until we realized they are constantly moving and shifting. We watched the movement for a few hours and what was an empty lagoon soon became completely filled with massive chunks of ice. If you are lucky enough you’ll see or hear the ice breaking off the glacier. Definitely go and explore the area, as there is so much to see. The lagoon is huge and as you walk around it you’ll find different places so don’t just sit and stay at one place there is so much to explore! When we were there we were lucky enough to see 3 seals playing and one seal actively hunting fish, we saw as the seal caught it and then ate it above the surface. There are rocks right by the water so sit on one of them as the seals sometimes because really curious and come really close to the shore. For me one surfaced right next to me but I was focused on another seal so I completely missed it. Plan so that you can spend as much time as possible in this incredible place.
