Reynishverfi Bassalt Beach
REYNISHVERFI BASSALT COLLUMN BEACH Pop Basalt column beach or Reynishverffi beach into your GPS and you’ll be leaded right in front of it. It is around a 20-minute drive from Dyrholaey. You’ve probably seen the photos of these basalt columns darn near everywhere, and now it is your turn to visit! If the tide is out, climb on them for unforgettable photos! You can easily reach the basalt columns by a side road off Highway 1 near Vik. It may look like the beach is overcrowded at first but most people just hang around the basalt columns. This is also where they filmed part of the HBO series Game of Thrones. What is so incredible is the 2 stone formations out in the middle of the sea. The walk along the beach is really nice and its sort of surreal walking on a black sand beach. The sane itself feels a whole lot different. We walked towards the 2 rock formations in the ocean and then just admired them whilst sitting on a rock on the beach. As a photographer this place is dreamland as there is so many awesome compositions and angles you can take the beach and its elements from. As always with Iceland the earlier in the morning you arrive the less people there are but with this place it does not really matter that much as the beach is quite big and many do not venture further than the basalt columns. I’d recommend spending at least 1-2 hours at the beach, find a nice spot on the black sand beach and just take in the beauty of your surroundings.
