Sunset Mission on Penang Hill
While on vacation, we decided to go and find the best location to catch the sunset.
We finally found Penang Hill, also known by the Malay name Bukit Bendera, which refers to Flagstaff Hill, the most developed peak. Bukit Bendera, or Seng3 Ki3 Snua1 in Hokkien, is where the funicular railway station is located, is 735 m (2450 ft) above sea level. It was known as Flagstaff Hill by the British because this was where the British flag used to be raised to signal that mail has come.
Set 821m above Penang's capital, on a clear day you can see the mountains of Langkawi and North Kedah. The hill is just 9 km from the city center.
The easiest way to get there is to use "GRAB" an excellent service similar to Uber and much cheaper than a regular taxi.
You can access this by a funicular train.
There are some attractions on top of the hill, some cheesy for couples and to create funny Instagram photos, some with live snakes that you can put around your neck.
Also, the hill is full of little monkeys so you must be careful, they love to go up to tourist and steal some food. :)
An Indian temple is also there; the architecture is fantastic, full of colors, smells, and enticing sounds — something you don't see often.
After an hour, we finally started to see the color of the sky changing.
What a reward, it was one of the best sunsets we've ever seen.
