A Weekend in Rome
Going to Rome for a quick weekend trip ?
. Heres what to see
In December, my girlfriend and I were eager for some relaxation and a beautiful trip! So we thought, why not Rome? One of the most beautiful cities in the world.
We booked a hotel room and after two hours on the Frecciarossa train, we were ready to enjoy our weekend.
December is a very special time to be in Rome. The atmosphere, the lights, the people and places are all captivating. The sky in the evening resembled fire and we were awestruck by how beautiful it was.
On our first day, we had the opportunity to see one of the most impressive structures on the globe. The Colosseum. I could envision the fearless gladiators fighting down below. Their swords clashing against the steel of their opponent. There is so much history here and you could explore this place for hours and never get bored. Buy tickets in advance and if you go with a tour guide you can skip the line!
The next day we were off to the Trevi Fountain. Built on top of an ancient water source, my initial feeling was “WOW! I can’t believe I finally get to see this!”. I’ve never seen so many people standing in front of a singular place. it lies sandwiched between small streets, where you barely hear the sound of rushing water before you round the corner and are greeted by this monumental structure. The fountain is located at the junction of three roads and more specifically it is built upon the ‘terminal point’ of the Acqua Vergine, one of Rome’s most important aqueducts that transports drinking water to the Eternal City. Everyone was eagerly tossing in their coins and hoping their wishes come true and we were so excited to do the same. The Trevi Fountain is the perfect place to relax after hours and hours of walking through the city. To just sit and listen to the water splashing was so tranquil and seeing people old and young alike taking in the fantasy that is the fountain was great to see. Side note: it's illegal to reach into the fountain. So don't!
On our last day, we went to explore the famous Piazza di Spagna (Spanish Square). Lying at the foot of the Spanish Steps this is the most famous meetup spot in Rome. The 135 gleaming steps rise from Piazza di Spagna to the landmark Chiesa della Trinità dei Mont. The world's most famous public staircase is a beautiful example of 18th-century architecture and also seen to the greatest people watching in town.
Next, we hopped over to Piazza Venezia. Piazza Venezia is the central hub of Rome and is where four major roads meet, so it is also known for its chaotic traffic. On the south side of the square is the Il Vittoriano, also called the Monument of Victor Emanuel II (Italys first king).
Rome is renowned for its many cultures and is a place where millions of people live together in harmony. This greatly adds to the value of the capital and showcases the progression of the Romans. I loved every second of my time here.
I am looking forward to going back and exploring more of this beautiful country and city, there are so many places I missed and still want to see. I am excited to head back later this year to make some more memories and take stunning photographs in this paradise of diversity.
