Exploring Logar Valley
The Most Beautiful Alpine Valley In Slovenia
Written by Arijana Tkalčec
Logar Valley is an alpine glacial valley situated in the North of the country, in the Kamnik Alps, close to the border with Austria. The valley measures 7km in length and is on average 250m wide. It is amongst the most picturesque valleys in Europe.
If you're coming with a motor vehicle, you have to pay an entrance fee. It is 7 € for cars and 8 € for vans. Their working hours in the summertime is from 8 am to 4 pm (approximately) so if you come outside working hours you actually don't have to pay. Sleeping in campers overnight is forbidden. We still did it for one night (as some others did too), but the next day all campers got a kind note asking not to do it. So if you get one, don't risk it as you can get a fine.
You can explore this area by foot, bike or car. There are many parking locations and you just choose the one that suits your needs the best. If you go by foot, it will take you around 3 hours to reach the end of the valley. I would recommend taking a bike ride here as the views around are just stunning and this is a perfect option if you don't have that much time in your schedule. You can rent bikes at the information center. Horseback riding is also a possibility here.
There is a lot of hiking trails starting in Logar Valley, but the most famous one is the trail through the Logar Valley; the one described below: 7 km ~ 3 hours one way by foot, an easy one.
Next one, a trail to Rinka Waterfall. You can get to the end of the valley by car and then it takes about 10 minutes of easy hiking to get to the waterfall. Rinka is amongst the highest waterfalls in Slovenia, about 90 meters high. A cafe clinging to a rocky crag is just next to the waterfall. It offers beautiful views of the waterfall and its surroundings.
If you're up for some more hiking, continue on the mountain trail from Rinka Waterfall to Okrešelj. There is the source of river Savinja on the way where you can refresh yourself with drinkable water. The trail is moderately difficult and it takes about 45 minutes to 1 hour.
Put visiting Logar Valley on your list as you will enjoy the views so much. It's a great place to relax and enjoy nature. It's suitable for everyone: friends, couples, families with children. To explore the main attractions, one full day is enough. If you want to do it more thoroughly, take a few days.
