Road Tripping Northern Spain - pt. 1
Spain // December 2018
I have always had a connection with Spain as it was my favourite place in Europe for a long time. it was the first place i really traveled to and explored in, so it was always a favourite of mine for that reason. I also love the culture, climate, people and don’t even get me started on the food! The nature, however, is really special! Massive mountainous vistas with gorgeous lakes all around, and many different colours due to the climate
This post will be split into 2 parts as there is so much to say about it – so here is part 1!
I had been to southern Spain quite a few times, but being a content creator and sharing my imagery primarily on Instagram, I saw massive potential to explore and share photos of lesser explored parts of northern Spain, that I had never seen on social media before. This had me digging through the webs for probably about 50-100 hours, trying to research spots. I was completely blown away by how much there is to see there! From national parks, to villages nested deep in the mountains, to the Navarre desert! It was actually unreal how much there seemed to be, so I went ahead with it with 2 friends of mine (also photographers) and we got ourselves a van to cruise in and sleep in to keep us mobile!
We started in Porto, (Portugal) where we picked up the van, and headed to the first spot which was Las Medulas. This was once a highly valuable gold-mining site of the Roman Empire! this place was UNBELIEVABLE! watch the short clip below!
and check the photo below for the views too!
We then headed toward the Cantabrian Mountains, which was a range I had never even heard of before (well done European geo class) and it was incredible! before this though, we stopped in a mountain village and spent the night there, which had maybe 50 inhabitants, but was one of the most picturesque places i have ever been! And I made a furry friend there!
Check out this video to really get a feel for what this place was like!
We drove from that village in the morning, to finally get to the Cantabrian Mountains. Such a wild place with winding roads all the way up massive mountains, with endless sights of peaks. Lakes were found at the TOP of the mountains, in the Picos de Europa national park, ,which was quite insane! Unfortunately we didn't have much luck with the weather so it was hard to get what we had hoped for here, but we enjoyed it nevertheless! Not a bad place to camp either!
Thats it for now folks! Feel free to ask any questions you might have! In the next post I will be sharing the rest of the trip, which is entirely different from everywhere we had been up to this point, so stay tuned for the next post in a few days!
