3 Greek islands you’ve never heard about
When it comes to beautiful islands, Greece has a lot of them. A lot. Below I am revealing 3 hidden beauties.
1) Folegandros
This mostly untouched Greek island has not yet been flooded with tourists. It is a refuge for those who simply want to kick back and take in the sights of the Cyclades, minus the noise. This is a place where you can get away from it all. It has an endless choice of beautiful beaches, white washed buildings and amazing sunset views. Only accessible by boat, this island is so tiny that you can cross it in a single day! We stayed for 4 days though, as we loved how low-key and uncrowded it was. Highly recommended!
2) Milos
This is the remote Greek island you’ve been looking for! Hop on a scooter or quad bike and set off on an island beach hopping tour. You will truly be amazed by some of the most landscapes. Sarakiniko, covered in eroded white rock, is the most popular and walking on its sands feels like walking on the moon.
To discover all of its beauties you should go on one of the daily boat trips (cca. 35 EUR). Imagine sailing on the turquoise blue Aegean Sea through Kleftiko and Sykia. You will be amazed by the endless caves you’ll see along the way.
3) Ios
Ios, known for its trendy nightlife, the island's self-indulgent party culture is what draws people here year after year. The island of Ios is an all out international party of college age people that lasts from June until the end of August on one of the most beautiful of the Greek islands. Ios happens to be a great place to unwind, too! Although, for those who can do without the partying should make sure to go in the off-season.
Chora, the island’s capital, is the perfect place to stroll around, especially during the day, when most people are on the beach. Get lost in the paved narrow streets and the cycladic vibe.
Although Ios Town is just as lovely as Santorini’s famed cliff-top villages, its jumble of churches, shrines and sky-blue painted doorways feel considerably more lived-in and authentic. As the sun goes down, climb on the hill above Hora to find Panagia Gremiotissa, a breathtaking church and the perfect spot to watch the sunset.
