A Hidden Paradise In Mexico
Amazing waterfalls and turquoise pools
Only two hours away from Mexico City, on the border between the states of Morelos and Guerrero, there's a hidden paradise called Las Granadas. With amazing waterfalls and turquoise pools, this natural set of pools is known by few people as it is not easy to get to. When, eventually, the road ends, you travel along a dirt road and park in a small, abandoned-looking house. There, locals will tell you how to get to the waterfalls and you can hire a guide to take you to the pools, they charge you about 200 pesos (10$ USD). That's when the real adventure begins. You'll take a hike passing green meadows and some steep hills, eventually finding this breathtaking, magical place with crystal clear water.
This is just the beginning, because you'll have to cross rivers and pools to discover more and more waterfalls that increase in size and beauty, with the last having a 35 meter fall. Here, you can practice rappelling and even go camping.
It is important to take a few things into account. Firstly, there is no cell signal or electrical power, so be prepared to connect with nature and forget the stress of the city. Secondly, wear sneakers with anti-slip soles to avoid slipping on rocks as some of them are smooth. And thirdly, in this type of tour you will be getting wet, so you have to be careful with your electronic devices – such as your cell phone or your camera. I recommend bringing a water proof backpack.
Finally, be sure to drink enough water to stay hydrated, and rest well the night before since the route can be exhausting for some people. The whole trip takes about 2-4 hours depending on how much time you want expend swiming.
