Bachalpsee from above!
When we were in Lauterbrunnen for a long weekend, we made a little side trip to the Grindelwald region. We had only one day left, and therefore had not enough time to fully discover the area. We decided to only hike to Bachalpsee, a beautiful lake up in the mountains, with some high peaks in the background.
The Mountain Backdrop!
We took a cable car from Grindelwald up to First; the station high in the mountains. It is possible to do all sorts of activities around here, such as paragliding. The hike to Bachalpsee is quite easy, and therefore a bit more busy. We were there early in the morning (took the first cable car up), but later on it got much more busy.
We did not have the time to camp around here, but we definitely recommend it! With sunset or sunrise you will definitely get the best views, and it will be way less crowded. It is said that it is not allowed to camp out here, but we saw a lot of people pack up their things when we arrived in the morning.
After relaxing near the lake and enjoying the views, we hiked back to jump in our car and head home. We heard that some people hiked up to Faulhorn, from where you have great view over the big lakes on the other side of the mountain range. All in all a very nice day hike to get an impression of this beautiful region!
