Dining in Brugge 🍲

Delicious and humble family-run bistro

Our recent trip to Brugge consisted of so many winning moments and discovering Den Amand was one of them. One of the nights we wanted to find an extra special place to eat (the white table linen kind) and the other one equally as delicious but a little more gentle on the wallet. It also had to serve traditional Belgian dishes and have an authentic feel, a place off tourists radar and more a regular place the locals dined at.

Google came into play here, we had a good search and that is when Den Amand was bought to our attention. If you check the website out you’ll instantly see that it is a true family-run business founded by a lovely couple. It was actually very impressive as they are the only staff, one cooks and the other serves and greets the customers, and despite that the service is seamless, efficient and bought to you with a smile. We felt comfortable, looked after and more than welcome, it was honestly like being greeted into their home, so personable.

The food didn’t disappoint either… we both had wok style dishes which were so incredibly tasty and the portion sizes were perfect. Very good quality food which was clearly made with love, I personally loved how I could watch her cooking from our table (yes it was super tiny in there, but in a good way!). The relationship between the couple was professional but it also reminded me of when my partner and I cook together, it was so humbling, real and hearty as if we were guests in their home.

We had a really early dinner that night as we were starving and wanted to get ready for an evening of pub crawling! So we shared the restaurant with only 2 other couples. The next night we happened to be walking by and the place was buzzing with locals, which was lovely to see and clearly a much-loved bistro, confirming our prediction!

Highly recommend, it is a stone throw away from the main square so it is in a perfect spot!
