Relax & unwind beside the majestic Milan Cathedral

When planning our girls trip to Milan one of the first things that came to mind, other than shopping and Aperol spritz was visiting the center of the city, the epitome that draws in sightseeing tourists and locals alike. The Piazza Duomo. We went in June 2018 so we were lucky to reap the full benefits of the hot summer sun whilst roaming the beautiful square.
I remember the moment vividly when we were following our directions to cathedral city, we were actually a bit lost, really hot dying for a drink yet our cameras were still at the ready. Eventually, we got to the point where we could see a shimmery glimmer where the sun was bouncing off the corner of the cathedral, the Duomo di Milano. It was like something I’d never seen before, it was so white, glistening and truly majestic overlooking the Piazza. I would have come to Milan purely to experience that.
We spent ages trying to to get a clear shot selfie with no one else in view, unfortunately, all the fellow tourists had the same idea, so we headed back super early in the morning. The sunrise made it even more beautiful.
We decided to get some lunch and an Aperol spritz in one of the restaurants just next to the cathedral, we had a prime view of the square. Before we knew it we had been sat there for 4 hours so we then made the joint decision to explore the rest of the city, we didn’t get far before we found this amazing gelato place just off the square called Gelateria La Voglia, it has table service so we found a spot on a table outside. An order of pistachio and tiramisu had to be done and it finished the afternoon off perfectly.
Milan for me consists of the perfect balance of relaxing, yet bustling and full of life, historic and oozing with rich culture and stunning architecture lining all the streets, juxtaposed with a modern, young, vibrant lifestyle with fashionovas wearing their contemporary designer labels. It feels like such a cool yet an entrepreneurial place to be, we loved it and will be going back. More stories of our Milan trip to come, watch this space!
