The Best Hikes Of Na Pali
Off the Grid in Hawaii
Want to go somewhere tropical this next winter season? Look no further than Hawaii! Escape the cold and get over to the temperate islands, where “Aloha” isn’t just a word but a way of life.
My favorite island is Kauai, also the least visited, and let me say, I was baffled as to why it wasn’t visited more. This island is very rural but is a must-see for every adventurer out there.
Going in the winter is a plus because ticket prices are usually cheaper, running between $350 to $400 from major airports in the United States. In terms of accommodations, you can usually stay in Airbnbs. Transportation is easy too, you can get from one side of the island to another in about 45 minutes so, renting a car is optimal to have a great time. Some must-see destinations in Kauai are the Wailua Falls, the Na Pali Coast, Waimea Canyon, Poipu Beach and Hanalei.
The endless hikes available here is awesome. From the steep cliffs of Na Pali, to the beaches of the south shore, you can do so much here. One of the best hikes I have ever done was along the Na Pali Coast. This coastline was the most intense experience I have ever had. Some buddies and I hiked down one of the ridges of Na Pali to a lookout that took us right over the cliffs and revealed the jagged mountains that were Na Pali. This hike isn’t for the faint of heart, as it is a pretty intense and dangerous trek, but if you are feeling up for it then go full steam ahead.
Up next is an area coined "The Grand Canyon of the Pacific”, Waimea Canyon highlights Kauai’s diversity. Here, you can do some canyon hikes and see the red and orange rocks of the area. You should also stop by the town of Waimea at the bottom and do some shopping, as it’s a very original spot, mainly occupied by locals.
One beach you should stop by is Poipu Beach on the south shore. This beach had the most palm trees I have ever seen on a beach. The drive down was also amazing because you drove through jungle areas and mountain ranges. Overall, if you want a different taste of Hawaii then you should go visit the island of Kauai and experience the wild side of the islands!
