Take in Sunrise at Bukit Cintra

Admire the stunning sight of Mount Agung in idylli

The last time Mount Agung erupted was in November, 2017. Such is this synonymous volcano’s size, it dominates the surrounding area, yet despite this, there’s been many travellers to Sidemen that have never managed to catch a clear glimpse of the 3,031m active volcano

To see Mt Agung throughout the day you need to be lucky as this symbolic Balinese volcano spends much of the day cloaked in mist and clouds, adding to its mystique. In order to give yourself the best chance to see the volcano is to wake up at sunrise, and there’s not a more impressive setting to stand before it than at Bukit Cintra. This secluded area requires a journey through rural Bali to reach and the setting resembles something you might read about in a fantasy book.

Aim to be there from 6:30am for this is the time of day when the looming mountain is at its most visible. Keep a watch out for a long grass field as you could easily drive by. There might be a few enthusiastic photographers’ motorbikes parked on the side of the road indicating where the best place to get off is. It’s a great vantage point to watch the morning mist rise up over the stretching rice paddy fields and envelope around the base of the majestic Mt. Agung.
