Wynwood Art District
A must-see in Miami
In a spontaneous trip to Miami, I asked a few friends for their recommendations on places that had delicious food and beverages surrounded by a fun vibe that couldn’t be found anywhere else in Miami. The number one place? Wynwood! It was only a twenty-minute drive for us from North Beach to the Wynwood Yard, an open market with food trucks and a pavilion for live music. It isn’t just a tourist destination—it would be the place locals would stop by after work for a drink or dinner, or both.
A band was gearing up to play under the pavilion, and people were milling about, grabbing food, and settling in for the evening. We wandered to see what piqued our interest for dinner. There was a little bit of everything, from raw food bowls and tacos to jerk chicken and (my weakness) macaroni & cheese. I opted for the House of Mac truck and ordered the Buffalo Mac and Cheese. It was worth the price since I knew I couldn’t eat it all that night without a little help. I didn’t share it! Instead, I saved the rest for a snack the next night. I was too full to indulge in anything else, but some desserts caught my eye and will be on my list to enjoy the next time I visit Miami.
We liked this neighborhood so much that we went back to it the next night. I was still full from lunch that day, but my friend had the most delicious looking bowl from Della Bowls, and we split the vegan ice cream afterwards. Needing to move after eating so much, we wandered over to the famous walls that the district is known for: Wynwood Walls. Even though most of the buildings in the neighborhood are colorfully painted, the Wynwood Walls feature select artists to display their work or installations. This part of the district was catered more to tourists like us, but the shops, bars, and businesses surrounding the Walls were places that locals would frequent. This place was ideal just to wander around and check out the walls both within and out of the official area. More importantly it was the best place to take take a lot of pictures!
