Hanoi

Hanoi is a must see destination when traveling to Asia. Wander the old alleys of the French Quarters and soak in the beautiful colonial architecture. Or take a stroll around the many lakes that dot the city. There is a quaint romantic charm to this place juxtaposed against reminants of a military state.

The main mode of transportation for the locals is by motorbike. There are thousands of them! Be careful when crossing the street as it's like Frogger for pedestrians! Don't stop, just keep walking, is the best advice I can give.

Watch out for the motorbikes. They are everywhere and they break for no one! Watch out for the motorbikes. They are everywhere and they break for no one!

Hanoi is pretty lively at night although the city has an early curfew. Everything closes by 11pm and the streets become dark. I recommend walking with a friend after the city goes to sleep.

Stop by the Vietnam War Museum for a fascinating peak into history. It's amazing how many weapons were created for jungle warfare.

Don't forget to try the street food for a taste of the real local culture. Things to eat are the Bahn Mi sandwhiches. Simple pâté and veggies on fresh crispy baked bread. Absoultey the best ones I've had. I wish I could give you the name of the place I went to but there was no sign. Rule of thumb, just look for the oldest wrinkled up lady with a cart you can find, it'll probably be super awesome. You really can't get anything like this in the states!

Other notable delights in Hanoi are the Vietnamese coffee and be sure to grab yourself a big bowl of Pho (noodle soup). For the more adventurous types, add some intestines or pork blood to it.

Simple but delicious! Simple but delicious!
