Khaosan Road Parade
Khaosan road in Bangkok is one of the most frequented spots for tourists in all of Thailand, but while most of the excitement takes place in the nightclubs or numerous market stalls, there are always great little surprises to be found.
My fiancée and I were having a late breakfast before setting out from our hostel for the day to do some exploring when we heard music, singing, and small firecrackers being set off a small distance down the road.
Grabbing my camera, I quickly ran out to get a closer look.
The costumes, the makeup, and the traditional dragon puppets were incredibly bright and vibrant with joyful music and several dozen participants involved.
To this day, I still have no idea what this parade was for. I have searched and asked in forums for a better understanding, but have had no luck.
My best guess is that this could have been practice for a performance at the celebration of the King’s birthday which was held a week or so later.
Thailand is such a beautiful magic place with so much to offer, but it’s this kind of surprise that reminds me that Bangkok is more than just a stop on the way to another destination.
