Queen Charlotte Drive, New Zealand

Meandering through the peaceful vistas of New Zealand’s South Island’s Marlborough Sounds, the regally named Queen Charlotte Drive offers a series of roads and walking routes surrounded by plentiful wildlife, unrivalled views and a sense of quiet serenity.
Starting at the small town of Picton, where the ferry docks, the winding road climbs up the cliff face with staggering views over the sounds. It won’t take long before you’ll be pulling over to take hundreds of photographs, or even stopping for a dip. If you’re so inclined, you can even spend the night at one of the Department of Conservation campsites. We suggest Aussie Bay for a peaceful night in front of stunning blue waters.
There’s a vast array of sea birds to spot and if you’re lucky, you’ll even see dolphins playing in the sound. You could drive along Queen Charlotte quite quickly but for the best experience, plan to either hike or camp here and really make the most of this stunning natural wonder.
