UNESCO World Heritage Site

The Suwon (Hwaseong) Fortress is an impressive UNESCO World Heritage site accessible from the South Korean capital city of Seoul within less than an hour by public transport. It’s a brilliant day trip from the city and offers the chance to enjoy stunning views whilst marvelling at the original walls, constructed as long ago as the 1790’s!
The walk along the walls provides greats views back over towards Seoul and across the surrounding mountains, as well as the chance to stop and cool off near stunning pagodas. This trip is suitable for all fitness levels, though there are a fair number of steps involved which limits accessibility and offers a decent work out too!
Begin at the main gate where an entrance ticket will allow you to explore inside the courtyard and watch a daily display or join the wall somewhere along it if you just wish to stretch your legs and make the most of the vantage point. It gets very hot in the summer so aim to arrive early and take lots of water!
