A Hidden Gem Called Kvernufoss

This place was actually recommended to us by a local who told us that only 5-10 people visit this place at a time, as it is so unknown. Kvernufoss Waterfall is located down the same road as Skogafoss! Once you turn off the Ring Road, instead of turning left for Skogafoss, you continue straight until you reach the Skogar Museum.Drive to the remote end of the Skogar Museum, park, and then walk behind the building and hop over a little fence. You will walk through a gorge until you arrive at Kvernufoss Waterfall! You can then walk all the way behind the waterfall but be careful of running and watch your step as the gravel is quite slippery and I fell a few times. The walk through the gorge is absolutely beautiful with a river flowing down to the ocean. The walk through the gorge is not long at all and there are so many excellent photo opportunities along the way. Once you arrive at the waterfall take your time to take in the beauty of the waterfall and if it’s nice weather sit down and have a picnic. Oddly enough it is quite refreshing just looking at the waterfall. Kvernufoss is just as beautiful as Selanjafoss and is practically empty so it’s a double win.
